X-11 is love, X-11 is life:
Seriously though, the Tempo/Topaz just cause hatred to well up inside of me. Truly the low point of late 80's-early 90's design.
The Citation X-11 is garbage too, but it’s got a sweet cowl hood and graphics, so it’s acceptable.

You’ve had your fun, the resistance shall rise up and “Viva la Ex-Once!” will be our cry of war.

like everything GM from the mid-70s through the mid-90s, a great idea on paper but totally fucked up in execution.

Being a 1980s car owner enthusiast myself I must say the Americans have made it easy for me. I can simply skip them and look at the French, Italians, Japanese, Swedes and Germans instead.

Excuse me, are you saying the IROC-Z isn’t the greatest Camaro ever? Because, if so, you’re wrong.

Even being a GM guy, I just can’t. I’d honestly rather have a Tempo.

There are exceptions to every rule. That Camaro is not for me, but I can appreciate that others like them.

As someone who had to rude in the back of a Citation for 18hrs to Disney Word as a kid, I can enthusiastically say, "Fuck the Citation right up its pooper". Total garbage, even with stickers on it.

HO V6 produced 135 hp and had a four-speed manual transmission.

As someone who raced them and also used an X-11 as a tow vehicle for my trailer, I’d say the X-11 was better than anything similar that Ford or Dodge had in that time. Not great but at least reliable and long lasting. Something that I can’t say about the ‘84 GLH I had before.
The 2.8 V6 was brand new with the Citation and an excellent engine for the day. The suspension ok, same about body. The suspension had the front of a ‘944 and the rear of a GTI. It was a bit too big and heavy, but for those that wanted a daily driver, they were pretty good.
I towed my ‘82 with a ‘84 for about 10,000 miles without a problem. Not bad. It wasn’t a bad deal, the trailer had the same rims and hubs as the tow car and race car. Wrap your mind about that.....

Yep, it’s interesting how so many racers get hung up on having the truck and trailer, only to find they have no money left for the race car. My philosophy is do everything you can with what you got. A 4 speed transmission, a class 2 hitch and air lift spring bags made the X-ll a great tow vehicle. I still have the same home built trailer having no suspension and almost 100,000 miles on it. It still has the original Junk Yard Chevy Citation rear hubs on all 4 corners. Over the years, I went from the X-11 to a ‘94 Pontiac Transport to now a ‘07 chevy uplander. A lot of miles with surprisingly good gas mileage.
FYI, I broke a front hub (JC Whitney hubs) in my first SCCA race practice with the X-11 in 1990 and borrowed one from my tow car so I could race it. Then I towed 300 miles home after replacing it.
The X-11 race and X-11 tow picture was going off to my last X-11 race, the 24 hours of nelson in about 1994. It finished in 3rd in ITA and the V-6 sounded like a small block on the straight.

Like all GM products of the 1980s, I love the X-11 even though I am well aware it is a pile of junk. GM had such a good design studio in the 80s, I really wish the cars had been built with the endurance and performance to back up their good looks. I’ll probably still own one someday, but I’m already aware it’ll never be reliable, no matter how much money I pump into it.
